With extensive experience as sheep and cattle farmers in the Huon Valley, Peter and Frances Bender brought their long-established skills, knowledge and understanding of land-based agriculture to their salmon farming enterprise.

In aquaculture or agriculture, the Benders’ priority has always been to create the best conditions to raise healthy, well-nourished, stress-free stock. To achieve this goal, they take a practical, hands-on approach to the day-to-day operation of the business. Both have travelled extensively in Europe and North America, researching the latest developments and trends in aquaculture.

Frances Bender’s contributions to the industry were recognised when the Rural Industries Research & Development Commission (RIRDC) named her National Rural Woman of the Year in 2001.
