Right now, we are excited to be beginning a new chapter for Huon as we look towards commercially farming Yellowtail Kingfish off the Houtman Abrolhos Islands, Western Australia.
We recently successfully completed the first phase of our trial farming Yellowtail Kingfish offshore in New South Wales. This trial demonstrated that not only do that Kingfish grow exceptionally well in warm waters, but there is significant market demand for the fish.
We hope that this page provides you with an understanding of what we’re trying to achieve in Western Australia, and how we are working towards achieving it.
What are we doing?
Two years ago, with the support of the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries, Huon began trialling farming Yellowtail Kingfish in Providence Bay, NSW. The first phase of the trial was a success, and demonstrated that it is possible to farm high-quality Kingfish in warm waters, and that there is significant market demand for the product.
The success of the first phase of the trial, along with gaining a lease site in Western Australia near the Houtman Abrolhos Islands, will see Huon adding a third fish species to its commercial farming operations.
