The Huon Aquaculture Group welcomed the announcement by the Federal Minister for Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities, Tony Burke, to approve the expansion of marine farming operations on Tasmania’s west coast today.
Managing Director Peter Bender said the whole Huon family was excited about the news, which comes as another major tick of approval for the Tasmanian owned company.
“We’re extremely proud to be leading the way as the salmon industry in Tasmania continues to go from strength to strength,” said Mr Bender.
“We are thorough in everything we do and the announcement of the approved expansion today is a reflection of this.
“We look forward to being able to expand our operations and our involvement with the west coast communities and we see this as another step forward in our journey of salmon farming on the west coast.
“Our team at Huon is made up of experts from all marine science fields to ensure that we stay on the cutting edge of aquaculture practice and we are always seeking to reinvest in this.
“This ethos has resulted in a surge in domestic sales which we attribute to the quality of our product. It has also translated into a reputation for quality in export markets, particularly Japan.
“We are becoming well known around the world not only for the quality of our product but also the intelligence of how best to care for, harvest and produce premium Atlantic salmon.”
The announcement today comes after Huon Aquaculture was awarded Tasmanian Exporter of the Year last Friday, yet another accolade for the highly awarded family business which also holds the only Triple A rated seafood British Retail Consortium accreditation in Australia (a world’s best practice standard for quality and food safety).
Huon Aquaculture Co-Owner Frances Bender said that it was important to the company that it stayed true to its Tasmanian roots.
“We believe we grow the world’s most loved salmon and that is something that Tasmanians around the globe can be very proud of,” said Mrs Bender.
“The clean, green Tasmanian brand is something that is genuinely reflected in the values of our company, so much so that every product we produce carries the Brand Tasmania logo.”
One hundred percent privately owned and Tasmanian, the Huon Aquaculture Group is an award winning company that employs over 400 individuals.
