Macquarie Harbour fish escape

Huon is aware that Petuna has recently reported smolt losses to the EPA, and that there is another as-yet unreported fish escape in Macquarie Harbour.

Pene Snashall, Huon’s Communications Manager confirms unequivocally that these fish do not belong to Huon.

“Each of our pens holding salmon around the weight being caught in the Harbour has been dived and inspected remotely with submersible cameras. We are pleased to confirm that each pen is fully secure and that none of our fish have escaped.”

Huon has in-pen cameras and is continually checking the conditions of the nets and fish.

“In addition, our feed rates remain within usual fluctuations which is further evidence that our fish are exactly where they should be.”

In the unlikely event of an escape Huon, like all companies, is required to report losses to the EPA.

“Petuna have done the right thing by reporting to the EPA and any fish loss is regrettable.”
