We directly employ more than 1,000 people nationally, with most employees based in
Tasmania. Huon also supports small, medium and often family-owned businesses across
Tasmania indirectly through our supply chain, from tradespeople to truckies, planners, boat
builders and planning professionals, often from regional communities. That\u2019s why we have
invested hundreds of millions of dollars in our suppliers. Because when local workers thrive, our

We\u2019re proud to be an active part of our local communities. Communities like Strahan on the
west coast and Huon Valley in the southeast are made up of salmon farming families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We proudly support a range of community groups, sports clubs, charities and local events, like
partnering with local schools on STEM initiatives and healthy eating programs. We also donate
fresh salmon to those in need, sharing the food we farm with the communities we\u2019re part of.
Since 2023, we\u2019ve donated more than 2000 kg of premium salmon to local organisations.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n
As pioneers of aquaculture, we continue to minimise our environmental footprint through

While salmon farming has a relatively low carbon footprint, we\u2019re committed to going further.
Our innovations include remote feeding technology to reduce wastage plus the fish waste from these facilities is turned into compost for local farmers<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Huon have some of the lowest stocking densities in the world; our farming practices mean our
stocking ratios at sea are 1% fish to 99% water.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Yes. Huon is leading the way in land-based salmon farming. Our fish can spend more than half
their life in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS). This approach improves fish health by
reducing exposure to disease, lowering stress, and minimising time in the marine
environment\u2014supporting both sustainability and improved fish performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Plus, the fish waste from these facilities is turned into compost for local farmers. However, land-
based aquaculture requires more land, resources and energy to operate, than marine farming.
We believe a balance of land and sea farming will allow us to continue to farm more sustainably
and keep employing more locals into the future.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n
We recognise our responsibility to the environment and communities where we operate. We\u2019re
committed to finding better ways to care for the environment. From upcycling organic by-
products to developing technology that feeds fish remotely, we\u2019re focused on reducing waste

We regularly monitor water quality in line with EPA standards and with innovations like remote

Salmon farming is one of the most highly regulated industries in Australia. These regulations
include Environmental Standards for Tasmanian Marine Finfish Farming (2023), Environment
Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), Environmental Management and
Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA), Marine Farming Planning Act 1995, Biosecurity Act 2019
(Tas), Salmonid Biosecurity Zones Regulations 2022 and Tasmanian Salmon Industry Plan
(2023).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Huon regularly provides reports to all levels of government to maintain transparency and meet
regulatory requirements. These include Environmental Licence Reporting to EPA Tasmania,
which covers compliance with environmental conditions; Production and Operational Metrics
submitted to NRE Tasmania, detailing farming outputs and performance; Mortality and Incident
Reporting to ensure timely communication of significant events; and Planning and Development
Reporting to support oversight of infrastructure and site development. These reports reflect
