The Huon Method is our innovative farming philosophy:
- Low Stress – Raised to mirror the natural life of salmon in the wild.
- Well Nourished – The highest quality feed dispensed by our ingenious feeding system.
- Kept Clean and Healthy – Nurtured in the most spacious enclosures in the world.
- Raised with Sustainable Practices – In the crystal clear open waters of Tasmania.
We’ve been farming top quality salmon in the pristine wild waters of Tasmania for close to three decades, and in that time we’ve learnt a thing or two about the best way to raise some of the highest quality salmon in the world.
To do this, we’ve developed what we call the ‘Huon Method’ and it is this philosophy that guides everything we do in the hatchery, on the farm and in the smokehouse.
That is probably why over the years we’ve won a swag of awards including the coveted Gold award at the 2010 Sydney Royal Show for our cold smoked salmon and being awarded the overall winner for Champion Salmon Product.
From ensuring the salmon live in a stress free and pristine environment, to making sure our fish pens have the lowest stocking densities in the world, we go to considerable length to produce some of the best.
We feed our salmon the highest quality feed available and have developed innovative feeding techniques that are now used all around the world.
Just as importantly, when our salmon are processed for sale, we do it in a humane way, utilising equipment that has been awarded by the RSPCA UK.
However, it doesn’t stop there, each year we reinvest much of our returns back into the business through research and development because you see, in the words of our founders, Peter and Frances Bender, at Huon Aquaculture “we don’t want to be the biggest, we simply want to be the best.”
That is the ‘Huon Method’ and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
