Our sustainability

Sustainability has always been at the heart of our operations at Huon. We have a proud history as pioneers of aquaculture, leading the way with innovations across every part of our business—from upcycling our organic waste and by-products, to developing award-winning technology that minimises fish feed waste.

Sustainability snapshot:
– 98% recycled water in our RAS facilities
– Remotely feeding fish helps minimise waste
>99% freshwater organic waste reuse

Why sustainability matters to us

As Australia’s premier producer of Atlantic salmon in Tasmania, we recognise our responsibility to future generations and believe in being good stewards of the oceans and land we operate in. To us, that means responsibly managing the impact of our operations so we can sustainably farm salmon.

Our sustainability goals

We’ve set ambitious sustainability targets which align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Together with our parent company JBS, we are focused on continually improving in four key areas: The environment, animal welfare, people and product—so we can keep sustainably feeding the world.

Top 3 sustainability goals:
Aim to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040
To reduce emissions intensity in all our facilities by 30% by 2030
60% renewable energy by 2030
