Environmental Technical Officer

Employee with microscope While our Environmental Technical Team is small, it consists of two people who have extensive experience within Huon; Bill and Darryl. The Environment Team, including our Wildlife Officers, reports directly to our Marine Environment Manager.
Bill has been in a number of roles at Huon within the feed team including feeding, planning, analysis and feed management, he has also worked as a technical officer.

Darryl was a wild-catch abalone diver in Western Australia for many years (so has had many encounters with Great Whites) and as a Diver/Supervisor/Team Leader with Huon.

The role of this team is to monitor environmental conditions across our leases and nearby areas. This includes ongoing benthic surveying (predominantly for operational use, such as feedback for feeders, lease cleanliness/debris), lease commissioning and decommissioning surveys, working with IMAS on research projects, undertaking compliance checks, collecting and identifying algae, identifying jellyfish, sediment sampling, and report writing.

Much of the work that this team does is reported to the State Government and the Environmental Protection Agency.
