We hold a number of international certifications that cover our entire process. These include everything from world class farming certifications to strict packaging and food safety standards.
Huon was the first salmon producer in Australia to achieve the internationally recognised Global G.A.P. certification.
We feel it is important to challenge ourselves and have the internal discipline to meet the very high standards set by Global G.A.P.
The Global G.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance Standard – Aquaculture Version 4 – is a pre-farm gate standard that covers the whole production process of the certified product from the hatchery until the point of harvest and packing.
The Global G.A.P standard not only audits Huon’s operations but also those of companies that supply us which means that there is a rigorous and thorough understanding of the entire process of farming and growing salmon.
British Retail Consortium (BRC)
Huon is a BRC A-rated seafood processor.
The BRC Global Standards specify requirements to be met to enable the production, packaging, storage and distribution of safe food and consumer products. Originally developed in response to the needs of UK members of the British Retail Consortium, the Standards have gained usage world-wide and are specified by growing numbers of retailers and branded manufacturers in the EU, North America and further afield.
Huon is HACCP certified. Safe food production is achieved by applying HACCP techniques to ensure that potential hazards during the process are recognised, monitored and controlled.
Huon is AQIS certified as an ‘A’ rated export establishment.
The Global Salmon Initiative (GSI) is a leadership initiative by global farmed salmon producers, focused on making significant progress towards fully realising a shared goal of providing a highly sustainable source of healthy protein to feed a growing global population, whilst minimizing our environmental footprint, and continuing to improve our social contribution.
The initiative is made up of over 70 per cent of world salmon production including companies such as Aqua Chile, Bakkafrost, Marine Harvest, Grieg Seafoods, Salmar and Scottish Sea Farms to name just a few. As part of the GSI Huon is committed to attaining Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification by 2020. Huon is the only Tasmanian (Australian) salmon producer that is a member of the GSI.
The Australian Packaging Covenant (APC) is a sustainable packaging initiative which aims to change the culture of business to design more sustainable packaging, increase recycling rates and reduce packaging litter.
It is an agreement between government and industry to find and fund solutions to address packaging sustainability issues. Through the APC, industry agrees to take a leading role in managing the impact of its packaging.
