We’ve found that many companies talk the talk about their mission and values but here at Huon, we walk the walk. For example, one of our mission statements is be a workforce that seeks excellence and innovation in everything we do. To harness the creativity and innovative nature of our workforce and recognise their efforts, we launched our company-wide Innovation Program in 2019. The Program provides all employees with a pathway to submit their ideas where they are all assessed equally based on merit. Ideas submitted to date range from ways to reuse and recycle our old fish pen nets, to changes to how we rig pens and more efficient ways to clean fouling off our vessels.
We believe in sustainably and efficiently producing the highest quality Huon Salmon and Huon Ocean Trout products possible which is why we reuse hatchery by-products, have found ways to cut down on processing waste going to landfill, reduce truck movements between our Nursery and wellboat, and farm our fish with the utmost care to give them the best lives possible.
We are always striving to be leaders within our industry. We were the first company globally to use wellboats for the purpose for bathing salmon, we commissioned, built and recently opened the Southern Hemisphere’s first onshore Salmon Nursery and consistently achieve the highest BRC food safety rating at our Parramatta Creek Processing Facility.
As we’re fully vertically-integrated, we are able to control every single step in the supply chain right down to customer service, sales and dispatch. This is why we provide our customers with the best quality and service possible and have even introduced a Fresher Rewards loyalty program for our wholesale customers.
In 2015, we were recognised as an Employer of Choice by the Tasmanian Government in acknowledgement of our highly innovative working culture, opportunities for career growth and family culture within the workforce. We believe in these values and they drive every aspect of our operations.
We also believe that a company is only as good as its employees which is why we have six core values that guide our behaviour:
- Community – we are responsible neighbours helping to build and support sustainable communities.
- Integrity – we are ethical, transparent, and inclusive in all our dealings.
- Creativity – we embrace the challenge of innovation and are driven by an improvement culture.
- Safety – we provide a safe and healthy workplace for all our staff, contractors and visitors.
- Care – we are passionate about our business, working together to achieve quality outcomes.
- People – we value our employees and work together to develop our industry.
We look after our employees which is why they have access to our Employee Assistance Program including free and confidential support services, bonus scheme, employee product discounts, corporate health insurance benefits, and more.
Not only are values important, so is having a mix of genders in our workforce. We strongly believe that each person brings something unique to the table which makes our workforce stronger and better. You can read Huon’s Workplace Gender Equality report here >
